Easter at Home Activities

Easter is one of the most important holidays in the Christian calendar and is recognised around the globe.  This year celebrations are likely to be a bit different as we once again celebrate Easter at home in order to halt the spread of coronavirus.

We have come up with some ideas and activities to help make the Easter weekend that little bit special during the lockdown and to ensure that those who want to celebrate its true meaning can do so.

Games

Easter Egg Hunt

Easter egg hunts are a fun family tradition and it’s one that can easily be replicated indoors or in the garden. Hide eggs, or lots of clues and one prize egg, in different locations around your home.

Pin the Tail on the Bunny

You could also try a game of ‘Pin the Tail on the Bunny’! Popular website Sugar and Charm even has a free template that you can download here.

Arts and Crafts

Egg Decorating

If you can get your hands on some eggs, why not have an egg decorating competition? You can hard boil your eggs, but it would probably be best to blow them and then you don't waste them.  You can do this by poking a hole with a skewer in both ends of the egg making one hole slightly bigger and then blow through the small hole over a bowl to catch the egg yolk and white coming out of the bigger hole. Be careful not to blow too hard because the egg will crack. Once all the insides are out, put the eggs in the fridge for later and then you can start painting and decorating your eggs however you like.

Easter Cards & Colouring

Get creative and create your own Easter cards using felt tips, crayons, pens, paints and a bit of glitter if you have it!  Online educational publishing house Twinkl has some lovely free resources to download on it’s website, including this free  Easter Themes Colouring Pack.

Easter Food

BBC Good Food has an online page dedicated to Easter Kids Recipes.  Our favourites include the classic Easter Nests and Healthy Easter Bunny Pancakes.

Easter Films

Why not get comfy and enjoy a family Easter film? Two of our favourites are Peter Rabbit and Hop. You could make the event even more special by making cinema tickets for the event and enjoying popcorn and other favourite cinema snacks and drinks. Maybe you could order a takeaway in too?  Hop is being broadcast on ITV2 at 5:15pm on Good Friday. Peter Rabbit is being broadcast on E4 at 3:10pm on Easter Sunday.

Video conference friends and family

Video conferencing is a fun and safe way to connect with friends and family not in your home. For a bit of safe face-to-face contact, use an app like Zoom, Skype, Facebook Messenger, or Google Hangouts.

Church Services

In light of the Government guidance, the Church of England has stated that all churches must close to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. However you can still find a local live stream service or event to watch from home here.
