Kat's Story

Kat has been a foster carer for Fostering Rotherham for 2 years now. She was so pleased to be accepted after suffering from some medical problems which she thought would prevent her from becoming a foster carer.

“Being an older applicant with a few health problems I thought it more than likely I would be turned down. I’ve wanted to foster for over 30 years but time was never right. I was surprised and elated to pass my medical and assessment. At last my fostering journey had begun. It took a little while, from initial visit to being passed at Panel, though not all assessments take as long. Throughout the process we felt supported and no question was left unanswered. I would do it all again without hesitation.”

“I wouldn’t chose to do anything else. From the heart stopping moment when a child who has no reason to trust, places their hand in yours to being so proud that the young person who struggles daily with anxiety puts others needs before their own.”

Kat says the best thing about fostering for Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is that everyone is doing their best to have a positive impact on a child’s life. She says that the team have been noting but supportive and her training has been excellent.
