Andrea's Story
Andrea has been a foster carer in Rotherham for six years and her favourite thing about being a part of the Fostering Rotherham team is how close and supportive the team are. Whether it’s personal support or great turn-outs for events, she feels that it has been easy for both carers and children to make friends.
“‘They never really leave, we just keep extending our family. We let them go because we love them. Even my mum calls herself ‘Borrowed Nan’ as all the little ones borrow her.”
When she started the application process six years ago, Andrea initially felt nervous but as soon as she started speaking to one of our social workers, she felt at ease and as if she had a new friend calling for a chat and a cup of tea at each visit. They got to know each other well throughout the application process, talking to Andrea’s children and even meeting her dog.
Andrea’s family have welcomed ten children into their home and although each has moved on to a permanent home, Andrea says ‘they never really leave, we just keep extending our family. We let them go because we love them. Even my mum calls herself ‘Borrowed Nan’ as all the little ones borrow her”
When other people ask Andrea about being a foster carer, she is proud to call her family a fostering family.
