Becky's Story
When Becky started fostering, her daughter was two years old and she felt like it was the right time for her family to welcome a foster child into their home. As a young family in Rotherham, they felt by fostering that they were providing a valuable service to their local area. She feels strongly that children in care should be able to stay in their local area and was happy to be opening her home to a child in Rotherham.
“It’s a sense of achievement that we helped a little towards making their day that bit brighter.”
When Becky applied over four years ago, she found the application process to be laid back and relaxed and said it was like getting to know a friend over a cuppa and a chat. When asked about the application, she said “RMBC aren’t trying to trip you up or make you fail, they want to support you and make sure you are the right person to get you the right match for your family. It has to be right or the placements wont work.”
She loves the sense of achievement that comes with being a foster carer and being able to give them new opportunities: “You feel you have made a difference.” For Becky, it’s not just about the big milestones in their lives, “It’s a sense of achievement that we helped a little towards making their day that bit brighter.”
