Mariam's Story
Mariam is a relatively new foster carer for Fostering Rotherham, she has been providing respite and day care for babies and younger children for the past year.
Mariam has so far, really enjoyed being part of good network of people including other foster carers and the supportive social workers she has met. She says that so many of the other foster carers are extremely helpful and one added her to the foster carers Facebook group and also invited her on some support group get-togethers.
“At the moment we're doing respite and daycare for a couple of youngsters/babies which I thoroughly enjoy. Seeing the changes over the months we've had them is really good. Plus seeing their little faces smiling when they see us is so rewarding that we feel like we are doing something right too.”
”I'm now on the Rotherham Foster Carers committee and attend any events or support groups that are available.”
The application process went pretty smoothly from start to finish for Mariam. The help she received was good too. Mariam says that she had been nervous about the Panel meeting, but it really wasn’t as scary as she expected it to be.
